Hickmans Farriery, first published in 1977, has been completely revised and updated to bring it into lie with the latest developments in this field.

There is a section on shoemaking which includes numerous practical exercises, each one illustrated with specially taken step-by-step photographic sequences. Advice and guidance is on assessing a horses conformation and action, and having done so, on how to remove a show, trim the foot and fit a new shoe. There are also sections on the care of the feet in sho and unshod horses, including youngstock, methods of preventing slipping; and the use of pads. Along with information on injuries caused by shows and abnormalities of gait, the shoeing of defective feet and surgical shoes.

The second edition of Hickmans Farriery will continue to provide an authoritative working reference for farriers, veterinary surgeons, horse owners, career students and professionals in the horse world.

He wrote Veterinary Orthopaedics, was co-author of An Atlas of Veterinary Surgery and edited Horse Mangement and Equine Surgery and Medicine.

Shipping and Delivery

We use New Zealand Post for most international orders and target shipping time is 3-10 working days for all international locations. If you need your items in a hurry then let us know when ordering and we can quote accordingly.

Actual delivery times may vary depending on the carrier in your own country.

Only very occasionally, items may take longer to despatch so please allow up to 28 days for delivery - we'll let you know if there's a delay in despatch. If you think the item is delayed, don't hesitate to contact us at any time.

Shipping cost for international orders is calculated by weight. Click "Calculate shipping and handling" within the shopping cart to display shipping cost of the product(s) to your location.


Returns Policy

There is currently a free economy shipping option for all NZ orders when placed on this website.

Most items are shipped the same day when we receive your payment.

We use a range of courier and delivery options for orders within NZ. Depending on your location and order size, we may use New Zealand Couriers, CourierPost or New Zealand Post. We'll let you know how your order was shipped and a tracking number in due course.

Most items should be received within 1-3 working days. If you need your items in a hurry then let us know when ordering. We recommend our Gold Class shipping option for urgent orders.

Only very occasionally, items may take longer to despatch so please allow up to 10 days for delivery - we'll let you know if there's a delay in despatch. If you think the item is delayed or missing don't hesitate to contact us at any time.


Gold Class Shipping

Select the Gold Class option for New Zealand orders when you require a little extra.

We will prioritise your order, ensure we get it packed and shipped at the earliest opportunity using the most suitable courier company. Our packers will also add extra packing materials to ensure the goods have extra protection in transit. We will also let you know (by text or email) when you're order has been shipped and the tracking number (if available).
